K-P-G-I, a Toronto-based development firm, claims to have a vision for Cochrane and its future as a modern hub for sustainability.

“By allowing them to demonstrate how effective a rural or remote community can be, it puts itself in a position to be highly innovative and appealing,” said President Marc Kealey.

Global investors, he claims, are looking for communities that can become “smart villages,” able to self-sustain in terms of food, energy, technology, and healthcare.

The Cochrane Board of Trade also wants to build the first self-sufficient small town in Canada, with the global epidemic highlighting an over-reliance on other countries.

“I believe this is the most exciting, historic event we’ve ever had the chance to be a part of.” It provides opportunities for our community to grow, as well as hope for the children who are currently growing up, “Frank Louvelle, a member of the board of trade, expressed his opinion.

The project will begin with introducing indoor vertical farming to the town, followed by the construction of a digital currency facility.

The mayor of the town is also optimistic about the future.

“The vision is hub Cochrane, but not just Cochrane; it’s the entire north,” says the entrepreneur, “Denis Clement remarked.

Officials say partnering with an indigenous-owned private equity fund adds to the project’s uniqueness, ensuring that the region’s first nations are treated equally.

“We require to make sure that our communities have every opportunity to take advantage of that technology to its full potential.” Keith Matthew of the Critical Infrastructure Fund for Indigenous Peoples.

The development firm believes that global investments in the hundreds of millions of dollars will be made in this project and that if Cochrane can pull it off, the town will be a national success story.

“Other communities throughout the country will be chomping at the bit to say, ‘I want this in my community, too,'” Kealey said.

The project’s first facility is expected to be operational within the next year.
