The Canadian health body, which provides the government with medical and scientific information on immunizations, stated that those above the age group of 18 could receive the third dose of the vaccine jab if they completed their full primary series of vaccination at least six months earlier, citing evidence of decreasing protection from the vaccine against Sars-CoV-2 over time.

In its recommendation, NACI stated that it “examined the most recent data that demonstrate that protection against infection reduces with time after completion of a primary Covid-19 immunization series.” And, while overall protection against serious sickness remained strong, it may have declined over time for specific people, such as older adults.

A booster dose can “improve protection against the illness” in such circumstances. “Booster dosages of Covid-19 mRNA vaccinations can strengthen the immune response and are likely to offer greater protection against infection and severe disease, as well as help prevent infection transmission,” the study stated.

Health Canada, the government department in charge of national health policy, approved the mRNA punches manufactured by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna for booster doses in November.

The agency also stated that it was collaborating with foreign partners and manufacturers to “evaluate the possible impact” of Omicron on approved test kits, vaccinations, and therapies.

“Genetic variants of viruses are widespread, such as the virus that causes Covid-19.” That is why, according to Health Canada, “systems are in place to respond swiftly and efficiently to any necessary adjustments to health goods.”
