Key takeaways:

  • The Ontario government, according to a government source, will make a statement this week about COVID-19 limits in the province.
  • Due to current testing limits, daily case data have effectively proven inaccurate in establishing the exact amount of COVID’s community spread.

According to a government source, the Ontario government will make an announcement about COVID-19 limits in the province this week.

The province imposed new limitations earlier this month in response to an increase in Omicron infections. According to the administration, the measures will stay in force until at least January 26.

Additional capacity limits, a prohibition on indoor dining, and the closure of various institutions, including gyms, theatres, and museums, were among the measures taken.

“Positive news” is on the way; Premier Doug Ford told Ottawa radio station 580 CFRA.

“I expect we’ll make some announcements about going back to various degrees of restrictions later this week,” Ford added.

The number of people hospitalized in Ontario because of COVID-19 has continued to rise, hitting a new high of 4,183 as of Tuesday’s update. However, only about half of those people were hospitalized because of the virus. Over 46% of those admitted were there for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19.

580 people have been admitted to the hospital with COVID and are in intensive care; roughly 18% were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for the virus.

Daily case numbers have essentially proven unreliable in determining the true extent of COVID’s community spread due to new testing restrictions.

However, the optimism percentage has dipped slightly recently, although it remained strong at 24.5 percent as of Tuesday’s report.

The previous week, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health stated that he is looking for a peak or plateau in COVID-19 hospitalizations but that the province will not be ready to relax limitations on the 26th.
